Migration Management & Local Government
Outline
Migration has been largely been viewed as a preserve of National government and some specialised agencies. It is an undeniable fact that during the past decade there has been an increase in cross border migration into South Africa. This movement of people has not been met with concrete plans at local government level as how to devise strategise to effectively monitor migration especially in key issues in service delivery.
The violent attack on foreign nationals in South Africa in May 2008 exposed the lack of proper migration management strategies especially at Local Government Level.
